Ladies and gentlemen,

Attached you will find a Letter to Airmen regarding the 800 number for obtaining IFR clearances from SoCal TRACON. The extension for clearances from San Diego area airports is 5.

The reason for the separate procedure for PSP, TRM and UDD between 2300 and 0600 is that Los Angeles Center takes over that airspace from SCT during those hours.

Unfortunately, I understand that the letter to airmen website formerly maintained at the FAA's regional office is no longer in existence, so if you could try to get this information out to your clients and associates it would be appreciated.

I was also asked to pass along a request. This is not an FAA issue but is forwarded as a public service - I had a phone call from Blackinton Airport (about 10 miles NE of CRQ) on Monday, 8/3. Blackinton is a private airport with a one way in/one way out operational restriction. The caller said that a C182TR based at MYF had made a low pass there contrary to the pattern rules, apparently at the end of an engine-out drill. They are very noise sensitive up there and ask that low passes and engine out practice not be conducted there.

I have added a couple of names to this list involuntarily. Anyone who wishes to be dropped please let me know and I will do so right away. And anyone who wants to be added, please contact me. While this is aimed primarily at CFIs, that isn't a requirement.

Cheers,

Tom Dray
